RRAFA members approved a donation of $200 to the Pend Oreille County Historical Society Museum in Newport, Washington in memory of Robert L Karr.

Watercolor magic happened at Robert Karr's first class with Shirley Bird Wright, who has become his mentor and continuous teacher. Because of that first class, Robert has gone on to study with many of the top watercolor artists in the USA. He has become very successful with his art.

Robert was 65 when he took his first class and has only been able to paint for limited times during the year because of the demands of his commercial iris garden. Even with this limitation, he has had numerous shows of his work with the art associations to which he belongs, Evergreen Art Association in Newport, WA and River Ridge Association of Fine Arts in Spokane, WA. His solo shows have been at Spokane Art Supply, The Cutter Gallery in Metaline Falls, WA and a solo show at Pend Oreille Players Association Gallery in Newport, WA. He has been spotlighted in several newspapers and in publications such as the Northern Lights and Selkirk Sun. He has also participated in several shows both as a finer artist and a watercolorist at Create Arts Center in Newport, WA.

Ink to Media in Spokane Valley has spotlighted him with a dual show and his work can be seen in several businesses in Newport and Spokane. His work will be part of the First Friday event in Spokane.

Robert travels to workshops with Lien Zhen to study Chinese styles of painting. He has studied with Thomas Lynch, Jan Fabian Wallake, Elizabeth Kincaid, Ron Ranson, Stan Miller and other local and regional artists. While watercolor is his passion, he also works in oils with Teen Lee McGowan of Metaline Falls, WA.

Regional history and recording of local landscapes have captured Robert's interest as seen in his vivid paintings of barns and other old structures in his summer and winter scenes throughout Pend Oreille County in particular. Chinese ink and watercolor painting in both the spontaneous and detailed methods are of special interest to Robert.
