My goals have always been to attempt to obtain the “soul” of my subject. My commissioned paintings are always painted to please me first and then the buyer. I guarantee the painting to please the customer or no $$ are due and I will just keep the painting AND of course no hard feelings. I have never had a customer not take the painting I have done for them and of course I love to see them pleased with the work.
I have been painting and doing music most of my life, love playing with the colors , for years while we lived in Montana our horses, ranch horses, the cowboys and wildlife and scenery were my subjects. Since coming HOME to SPOKANE we no longer have horses and go south in the winter to Arizona. I now do plein air paintings of the desert and the wild horses who live there. Hiking around and painting is so much fun. I hope to do some plein air works here in Spokane too. I was raised here and enjoyed riding my horse all over up above the Indian Canyon golfcourse.
My paintings have won many best of show awards and first place ribbons and I am always thrilled that someone else likes them.
One of my most cherished awards was from Watercolor Artists Magazine, CHARLES REID was the juror and had just finished running a workshop here. I could not afford to attend his workshop and I was doubly surprised that he picked one of my “watercolor paintings” small plein air for an honorable mention. He is one of my favorite watercolor artists. Normally I choose oil painting as my preference, however with our travels watercolor is easier.
My other large painting of our “loof” carousal horses here in Riverfront park, it was shown at the Fox Theater show here in Spokane, rec’d the Best of Show Award, 1st place oil and Peoples Choice Award
I also designed the county seal that is still used today for “Yellowstone County” Billings, Mt. courthouse and they have 2 of my other paintings on display as do many ranchers, attorneys, and other places in that area and in northern Montana.
I have been pleased to have studied with some of the best…..Clyde Aspevig, Hall Diteman, Hazen Alkire, and I have been teaching for years and love to see my students joy in their paintings.
Now I enoy painting for fun with a group and playing music with our blue grass groups here and in Arizona. I still do an occasional commissioned works but for the most part I am enjoying the freedom of just painting for fun.
